Izmir University of Economics Psychology Department Alumni

A "New Graduate Survey" is administered throughout the school to all students who graduate that year. Program outcomes are reviewed in line with the data obtained from this survey and the identified points are examined in department meetings.

In addition to the new graduate survey, our department conducts the "Situation and Employment Survey of Izmir University of Economics Department of Psychology Graduates".

In addition to asking personal information and employment-related questions to our graduates through the online survey, the problems that our department graduates may encounter in business life and the problems related to our department's programs are also asked, and suggestions regarding the mentioned problems are offered and our graduates are asked to evaluate them.

For example, “Students cannot adequately acquire the skills to solve problems with an investigative approach.” 71% of our graduates stated that they did not agree with this problem. Therefore, it can be said that with the psychology education given in our department, our students are equipped with the skills to effectively solve the problems they encounter in daily life and academic environments. “Foreign language education at the faculty is not sufficient.” A high percentage (84%) stated that they did not agree with another problem stated as follows. Since the language of science is English, psychology education in our department is given 100% in English. In this way, it is understood that our students are able to master international literature and continue their scientific research easily during their education, and that they do not have any problems in following current developments after graduation.

With the research project on the Situation and Employment of Psychology Graduates in Turkey, which we carried out with a group of researchers from Middle East Technical University in 2012, it was determined that 87% of the graduates of the Psychology Department of Izmir University of Economics were continuing their postgraduate education and/or working. When the time it takes for our graduates to find a job after graduation is examined, the results show that 61% of our graduates are in the first 6 months following their graduation, and 16% are in the 7th-12th grade. showed that they could find a job within months. According to a remarkable finding obtained within the scope of the project, our graduates are employed in the profession in which they received their education. While only 3% of our graduates are outside their professional field, the fact that up to 83% of them are employed in their own professional field and 14% in other fields related to their profession should be considered as an indicator that the teaching objectives of the program have been approached as much as possible. 78% of working graduates say that psychology education is mandatory in the field they work in; 16% reported that they work in fields where employees from different fields are required to receive in-service training.

It was determined that 58% of our graduates who completed the survey we prepared continued their postgraduate education. 96% of our graduates who continue their postgraduate education ask the question "Did the education you received at Izmir University of Economics Department of Psychology lead you to pursue a master's degree?" He answered the question positively. This rate indicates that the education provided in our department encourages our graduate students to produce scientific knowledge and carry out academic studies.

According to the data, 21% of our graduates who continue their postgraduate education continue their education abroad. Some of the universities where our graduates were accepted for postgraduate education are:

  • University of Southampton,
  • Ludwig Maximillian Univeristy Munich,
  • Kingston University,
